Echinamide Anti-Cold Herb Tincture
Echinamide Anti-Cold Herb Tincture
Echinacea
extract proven to increase immune response.
Echinamide describes a patented, super-extracted Echinacea purpurea liquid that guarantees high levels of alkylamides, polysaccharides and cichoric acid (together or individually) in an alcohol free tincture. These are the three key actives that are responsible for echinacea's effectiveness in clinical studies and that contribute to make echinacea one of the world's most popular herbs for
immune support.
Echinamide contains these actives in a base of the whole herb, so that none of the minor actives are missing. A proprietary double extraction process obtains the water-extracted polysaccharides and cichoric acid, as well as the alcohol-extracted alkylamides. We prefer to use Echinacea purpurea because this species contains the highest levels of alkylamides, cichoric acid and polysaccharides. Not all echinacea products qualify to be called Echinamide.
Echinacea
Echinacea is one of the top selling natural health products. It is also one of the most well studied plants, with many scientific trials attesting to its efficacy as an immunostimulant.
Immunostimulants are products that increase the functioning of the immune system, the system of the body that is responsible for protecting us from infection. Immunostimulants can act on any number of immune cells and ward off infection in several ways.
In the case of echinacea it stimulates white blood cells that scavenge for bacteria and cellular waste. It also stimulates helper T cells, which mobilizes other immune cells to fight infection. Additionally echinacea has its own ability to kill viruses, fungi and bacteria (antimicrobial) when it comes into contact with them. Finally echinacea stimulates the production of
collagen
which rebuilds damaged tissue. Echinacea is recommended by natural health practitioners for a variety of conditions including prevention of colds and flus, treatment of infections,
skin infections, skin ulcers, herpes, canker sores, eczema and wound cleansing.
Echinacea can be purchased as a loose herb, encapsulated herb, tablets, extract or tincture. In general liquid preparations of echinacea are stronger than dried preparations. Alcohol containing extracts tend to contain more medicinal ingredients than the alcohol-free formulas due to different processing methods. An important thing is to note what species of Echinacea is in a product. If Echinacea angustifolia is used check to make sure that root is in the formula. This is where the most beneficial medicinal properties are found. Echinacea angustifolia should make your tongue tingle when you taste liquid preparation. For Echinacea purpurea and pallida the whole plant contains significant amounts of medicinal ingredients. Echinacea is found in formulas for colds and flus.
Additional Information
Children:
Suitable for children at one-half the adult dosage.
Pregnancy and Nursing:
Echinacea is considered safe through pregnancy and lactation, consult with your health care practitioner if there are any concerns.
Seniors:
No special precautions known.
Contraindications
Echinacea should not be used by people with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) or human-immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Echinacea use may lead to stimulation of viral replication. Until more research is done, most experts recommend not using echinacea effects in HIV infection.
Allergic reactions have been reported in people who are allergic to other members of plants in the Compositae family (daisy, ragweed, marigolds, etc.)
Since echinacea can enhance immune function, it must not be used in people who have had organ transplants or who are taking drugs to purposely suppress the immune system like cyclophosphamide.
People with autoimmune diseases such as
rheumatoid arthritis,
lupus, and multiple sclerosis should avoid long-term use of echinacea.
