CAT EYE DIY
3 Simple Cat Eye Tutorials
The cat eye is one look you can count on from season to season that will never go out of style. The look flatters every eye shape and can be as subtle or as dramatic as you like. It is important to use a pencil that applies easily and provides ample color, allowing you to achieve your desired look. Our eye pencils are exceptionally rich eye liners that glide on easily - perfect for precise cat eye application.
The Classic Cat Eye
Simple, instant glamour.
Begin by drawing a thin, straight line along the upper lash line starting from the inner eye moving toward the outer eye. Stay as close to the lash line as possible.
When you reach the end of the outer lash line, flick the line up toward the temple. As a guide, you may want to put a dot where you would like the cat eye to end, and then connect the dot to end of the line you drew in Step #1.
Now that you have drawn your basic line, you can go back and retrace the line, making it as thick as you would like.
If you want to soften the look, draw a thin along the bottom lashes.
Follow with two coats of Jet Volumizing
Mascara
on the top and bottom lashes. If you are using Touch or Rough pencils, finish with Chestnut Volumizing Mascara.
The Smoky, Sultry Cat Eye
A softer, subtle cat eye.
Choose an Eye Shadow Trio – Try Sultry trio with Coal Eye Pencil or Stunning Trio with Touch or Rough Eye Pencil.
Using the Eye Base Brush, apply the lightest color of trio and from the lid to brow bone.
Then follow steps 1- 4 from the "classic cat eye" look above.
Using the Eye Liner Brush, trace over the cat eye on the eyelid, then line the bottom lash line with an accent shade from the trio. Smudge for a more dramatic look.
Follow with two coats of Jet Volumizing Mascara on the top and bottom lashes.
The Mod Cat Eye
Bold and chic.
Begin by drawing a thin, straight line along the upper lash line starting from the inner eye moving toward the outer eye - make sure your pencil is freshly sharpened for precise lines. Stay as close to the lash line as possible.
When you reach the end of the outer lash line, draw a line up from the outer corner of your eye, toward the temple. This will determine how high and long you want your mod cat eye to go. As a guide, you may want to put a dot where you would like the cat eye to end; and then connect the dot to end of the line you drew in Step #1.
Draw a line from the inner corner of the eye to the top of the line at the outer corner. This will form a sideways triangle.
Fill in the triangle with your pencil.
Follow with two coats of Jet Volumizing Mascara on the top and bottom lashes. If you are using Touch or Rough {brown} Eye Pencil, finish with Chestnut Volumizing
Mascara - the coordinating eye pencil and mascara will give you an added touch of WOW.
SOFT SMOKY EYE
A soft, smoky eye is perfect combination of sweet and sultry makeup. Opt for a softer color than the traditional black, brown or gray, instead try a less traditional pink or green. Finish the look with a sheer lip – just enough to add a hint of color and a bit of shine to complete your look.
Step #1 - Eyeliner
Start with Rough Eye Pencil and line the upper lash line all the way to the inner corner of the eye. Repeat on the bottom lash line, gently dotting the pencil along the way. Smudge both the top and lower lash line using our Eyeliner Brush to soften the line.
Step #2 - Eye Shadow
Use our Diversity Eye Shadow Trio which is a pretty palette of of plum, pink, and taupe. Lightly apply the darkest color of the trio, the rich plum, over the Rough Eye Pencil on the top and bottom lash line using the Eyeliner Brush. This will set the color.
Step #3 - Contour
Using the Eye Contour Brush blend the plum eye shadow and the Rough eyeliner line gently upwards toward the eyelid to smudge the color for a more natural, sultry line.
Step #4 - Blend
Using the Eye Base Brush apply the shimmering pink from the Diversity Trio all over the eyelid up to the crease. Using the Eye Contour Brush, blend well so there are no apparent lines between the plum and the shimmering pink shades. Then lightly apply the plum shade to the outer corner of the crease of the eye lid. Blend well to finish off your smoky look.
Step #6 - Highlight Brows
Now it is time to highlight the brows. Apply a small amount of the matte taupe in the Diversity Trio to highlight by gently tapping the shadow along the brow bone. This effect will open up the eye and soften the smokey shadow.
Step #7 - Mascara
Apply two coats of Jet Volumizing Mascara to the top lashes.
Step #8 – Lips
Sheer Moisture Lip Tints provide sheer, hydrating color complete with lip-firming peptide, to perfect to finish your Valentine’s Day Look. Try a rosy pink like Twinkle or a caramel shimmer like Glisten. Both will perfectly complement and polish off the look!
